How to prune Desert Rose (pruning time and method)

When to prune desert rose

Desert rose can be pruned after flowering or during its dormant period. The pruned branches should not be too short and can be used for cuttings and planting.

Desert Rose Pruning Methods

When pruning the extra side buds on the main branches of Desert Rose, you only need to leave three or four side buds on the main branches. The purpose of removing the top buds is to inhibit its growth. If the Desert Rose has too many side branches, it is easy to have unbalanced nutrients and look unsightly.

Generally, it is a good time to prune Desert Rose after each flowering. Cut the overlong branches appropriately, and the new buds will bloom. But it does not mean that you must prune after each flowering. If your Desert Rose branches are not long and the plant shape is also ideal, you can skip pruning. Pay attention to fertilizing and watering after flowering to promote secondary flowering.

Desert rose grows fast by pruning

When planting desert roses in pots, many withered and rotten roots need to be trimmed off in time, which can make the desert roses grow stronger and bloom faster.

Desert Rose Pruning Flowering

The cut branches of the Desert Rose will grow side buds from the wound. What we want is the growth of side buds. The more small side buds grow, the more flowers will bloom.

Desert Rose Pruning Tips

During the growth process of Desert Rose, sudden changes in the environment and improper maintenance methods may cause the leaves of Desert Rose to wither. The diseased and dead branches should be cut off in time. Don't be reluctant to prune them. Only after they are all cleaned up can the problem of dead branches be effectively solved.
