What is rapeseed?

Rapeseed is a vegetable of the Cruciferae family and the Brassica genus. It is also called bitter vegetable, cold vegetable, Brassica rapa, Hucai, mustard, gourd vegetable, and Buddha vegetable. It is a vegetable of spring and summer, matures around May, and its main producing areas include Gansu, Qinghai, Inner Mongolia and other provinces.

What does rapeseed look like?

Rapeseed is an annual or biennial herb with a height of about 30-90 cm. The whole plant is glabrous, with basal leaves and stem leaves. The leaves are broadly obovate, with terminal racemes, yellow flowers, and strip-shaped siliques.

There are many ways to cook rapeseed. The most common ones are stir-fried rapeseed, stir-fried rapeseed with oyster mushrooms, cold rapeseed, rapeseed with tofu, rapeseed with cold dried shrimps, rapeseed meat balls, etc.

1. Rapeseed meatballs

Wash the pork belly and mash it in a food processor, make it into meatballs, steam it for 12 minutes, then blanch the rapeseed and pour the oyster sauce on top.

2. Stir-fried rapeseed

Wash the rapeseed and break it into petals. Heat oil in a pan, add the rapeseed and stir-fry over high heat. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to season before serving.

As a vegetable, rapeseed has high nutritional value. It is rich in dietary fiber, calcium, phosphorus, vitamins, carotene and other substances. It has the effects of helping digestion, preventing constipation, and regulating metabolism.
