How to save eggplant seeds

Where do eggplant seeds come from?

A plant of the Solanaceae family, genus Solanum, it can grow up to 1 meter tall. It has seeds that are flat, kidney-shaped, shiny on the surface, and reddish-black or yellow in color.

Plants that are strong, have many root systems and are in good condition should be kept as seed plants and given special care separately. Sufficient fertilizer and water should be provided to promote the growth and development of the eggplants. When the eggplants are fully mature, they can be picked and all the seeds removed.

When the eggplant is ripe, it can be harvested in time. Remove the empty, dull, and incomplete seeds and keep the plump, dark brown seeds. After taking out the seeds, rinse them in clean water to remove some impurities, then soak them for an hour. After that, rub them once in clean water to remove the mucus on the surface of the seeds. You can drain them and spray some fungicide for disinfection, then store them after drying them for half a day.

Eggplant Seed Planting

Eggplant is generally planted in the open field. In the Yangtze River Basin, it is mainly sown from winter to spring before germination. In the north, seedlings can be grown in hotbeds in early spring.

At the end of February or the beginning of March, you should start sowing seeds and raising seedlings. First, prepare the nursery ground, break up the soil clods, and sprinkle base fertilizer, such as fully decomposed chicken manure, then mix the seeds with sand and spread it evenly on the ground.

It will bloom two months after planting. When flower buds appear, remember to add more manure or organic fertilizer to provide it with sufficient fertilizer for growth. When it is too hot and dry in summer, you need to water it frequently to keep the soil moist. Eggplant is actually very easy to grow, and you basically don't need to take care of it after it grows up.
