How to plant leaves in the quiet night

1. Leaf cutting method

1. Take the leaves

If the leaves have been removed, they can be used directly.

If you are picking leaves from a thriving nightshade plant, do not pick them immediately after watering. Wait until it is slightly dry so that the leaves will be easier to pick.

The leaves should be removed at the base. Gently pinch the leaves and shake them left and right a few times, and the leaves will fall off.

New life is generated from the roots of the leaves, so if the roots of the leaves are not clean, leaf grafting may not be successful, please pay attention to this.

After picking the leaves of succulent plants, place them in a ventilated and cool place to dry the wounds, and then do leaf cuttings after three or four days to avoid leaf rot.

2. Container

Put the soil for planting succulents into the prepared container and level the soil. Generally, the soil for leaf cuttings will be mixed with some vermiculite to retain water. The ratio of peat soil, granular soil and vermiculite should reach 1:1:1.

3. Leaf cuttings

It is called leaf cuttings, but it does not mean to insert the leaves into the soil. The leaves prepared in step 1 should be arranged one by one in the container.

The direction of the leaf should be facing upwards and the back should be facing downwards.

However, there is now a new way of leaf cutting, which is to insert the tip of the leaf obliquely into the soil.

In addition, if the climate is right, place the leaves on a cement board and the succulent leaves will sprout small babies on their own.

4. Seedling cultivation

There are also requirements for waiting for succulents to grow pups. The soil must maintain a certain humidity, and try not to water the leaves when watering, otherwise the leaves will easily rot.

During this period, not too much light is needed. If exposed to strong light, the mother leaves will consume nutrients faster, which will reduce the success rate of leaf cuttings! Just place it in a bright and ventilated place without direct sunlight.

After seedlings grow from the mother leaves, you can increase the light appropriately to prevent excessive growth. When watering, be very careful not to knock down the seedlings.

5. Repotting

When the leaf cuttings have grown out and reached a certain size, you can transplant them to new pots. If the mother leaf is still intact at this time, you can gently break it off and do leaf cuttings for the second and third time. Don't discard them all at once.

2. Precautions

1. Mother leaf

During the leaf cutting process, some of the mother leaves will slowly wither because they need to transport nutrients. You can wait patiently before the leaves completely wither. It is possible that more small nightshades will be born, so wait until the mother leaves are completely dry before removing them!

2. Sequence

During the leaf cutting process, you will find that there will be the following situations: 1. Roots grow first, and then the cubs emerge. 2. The young ones emerge first, then the roots grow. 3. Only roots grow (or small cubs emerge). Don't worry again, this is normal!

3. Temperature

20-25 degrees is the best temperature for leaf cuttings. If you are really in a hurry, you should do leaf cuttings at 15 degrees or above and below 10 degrees, but the growth rate will be very slow.
