How to save potato seeds

How to get potato seeds

Potatoes belong to the Solanaceae family and are an annual herb. Their tubers are edible, so they are a relatively important food crop. Their seeds are usually small potatoes, which can be cut into pieces and planted. If well managed, the yield will be relatively high.

Potato seeds

You can save potatoes for seeds yourself. You can get potato seeds by cutting large potatoes into pieces. Because their seeds are relatively small and the seedlings are relatively weak, they are generally not collected. Usually small potato pieces are selected, disinfected, soaked, and then planted.

Potato seed storage

Potato tubers are relatively cold-resistant, so the temperature needs to be kept at 0-4 degrees when storing them. The humidity must be controlled when storing them, and it should not be too high, otherwise it will cause them to germinate prematurely. There must also be a good ventilation environment, and it is best to maintain a dry environment at normal times.

Potato seed planting

When planting potatoes, they are generally planted in January and February in the south, and in April and May in the north. Loose and fertile soil is needed for planting, and germination treatment is required before planting. A suitable temperature environment is required during normal maintenance.
