How to prune lantern flowers

When to prune the lantern flower

The pruning time of lantern flowers can be divided into two situations. One is the growth stage, the seedling stage, the vigorous growth period, and after the flowering period. The other is seasonal changes. The best time to prune lantern flowers is spring and autumn, when the temperature is more suitable.

Cuttings: The cuttings of lantern flowers are carried out in April in spring. The length of the branches is 6 to 10 cm. They are pruned obliquely. After trimming the leaves below the branches, place them in a cool place for half an hour. Cut the branches into river sand, wet the soil, and place them in a semi-shaded and light environment. Maintain a moist environment and it will take root in 1 to 2 weeks.

Lantern flower pruning

1. Pinching and pruning during the seedling stage: When the lantern flower seedlings grow to 8-10 cm, you can pinch them once, cut off the branches with tender buds on the top, let it grow horizontally, and prevent it from growing too fast.

2. Spring thinning: Keep some strong branches of the lantern flower, prune away dense branches and crossed branches, increase the light transmittance between branches and leaves, and allow each branch to receive more sufficient light, which is beneficial to its growth and prevention of diseases and pests.

3. Autumn pruning: Cut short some of the long or too high branches of the lantern flower to keep the plant round and beautiful, control its shape, and make the new branches stronger.

Lantern flower pruning tips

There are three main techniques for pruning lantern flowers: topping, thinning, and pruning. Topping requires removing the top buds during the seedling stage and the growth period to promote the growth of side branches.

Lantern flower pruning precautions

During the daily cultivation of lantern flowers, you must not only master the methods of watering and fertilizing, but also do more pruning, mainly pruning away the branches that are withered, weak, and infested with diseases and insects.
