The growing environment and local conditions of leeks

Leek growth environment and conditions

Chives were originally distributed in southeastern Asia, but are now grown in many parts of the world. They are more widely distributed in China and are widely cultivated in the north and south.

Leek Growing Conditions

Chives have strong adaptability to the environment and are relatively cold and heat-resistant. They are grown in all parts of China and can be produced in all seasons in the south. The above-ground parts wither in winter, but the underground parts will still sprout and grow in the following spring.

Chive growth temperature

Chives prefer a cool environment and have a certain degree of cold and heat resistance. The suitable temperature for seed germination is above 12 degrees, the suitable growth temperature is between 15-25 degrees, and the underground part can withstand lower temperatures.

The growth process of leek

It takes 3-5 years to care for leeks from planting to the end of crop rotation, and up to 8-10 years. They are sown and raised in November-December, and transplanted in March-April of the following year. After one sowing, they can grow for many years, and the second year is the peak production year.

Leek planting time and method

The sowing time of leek can be divided into three types: spring sowing, summer sowing and autumn sowing. Choose a piece of sandy land with convenient transportation and rich humus, deep plowing and apply enough base fertilizer, then choose some healthy and high-quality seeds, soak them in 40-degree warm water for germination, and sow the seeds in the greenhouse with a row spacing of about 12 cm to let them germinate. After the seedlings emerge, do a good job of weeding, watering, fertilizing, and soiling.
