Peony's growing environment and local conditions

Peony Growth Environment and Conditions

Peony prefers a sunny, cool and humid growing environment. It is tolerant to semi-shade and cold, but not to direct sunlight. It is not demanding on soil and is suitable for planting in loose, deep, fertile, well-drained neutral sandy loam. It cannot be planted in acidic and heavy clay soils. The planting areas are concentrated in Heze, Luoyang, Beijing, Linxia, Pengzhou, Tongling County and other areas.

Peony Growing Conditions

Peonies prefer an environment with plenty of sunlight, are not resistant to strong sunlight, and are not cold-resistant. In low-temperature areas in winter, anti-cold measures need to be taken to prevent the plants from being frozen. The high temperature and high humidity environment in the south is not conducive to its growth, and specific environmental conditions need to be provided for the peony flowers to bloom.

Peony Growth Temperature

Peonies prefer warm environments and are not resistant to high temperatures. They will enter a semi-dormant state when the temperature is above 25 degrees. The suitable growth temperature during flowering is 17 to 20 degrees, and they need to be treated with low temperatures before flowering, with the temperature being about one to ten degrees. They have a certain degree of cold resistance and can tolerate temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees, but warming measures should still be taken in northern regions.

Peony Growth Process

The best time to plant peonies is from August to October each year. The time should not be too early or too late. However, the planting time will vary depending on the planting area. It can be slightly delayed in the southern region and slightly advanced in the cold northern region, but warming measures need to be taken.

During the growth period of peony, there are two periodic changes, one is the change of life cycle, the other is the change of annual cycle. Its life cycle is divided into stages. Life begins with the formation of embryo, and goes through the embryo (seed budding) stage, juvenile stage, weak stage, middle-aged stage and old age stage, and finally ends with the death of the plant.
