The arrow-shaped plant has a strong adaptability to the environment and prefers a humid environment. It is often distributed in shady and wet places such as river beaches, ditches, and grasslands. It likes loose, fertile, and humus-rich soil. In addition, it likes a warm growing environment and has a strong ability to withstand low temperatures.

An arrow growth temperature

An arrow likes a cool environment and has strong cold resistance. In the Northeast region, it can withstand temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius. It can generally overwinter outdoors without taking any warming measures.

The time and method of planting an arrow

1. An arrow can be planted after it blooms in autumn, or when the leaves have just withered in spring. Use a knife to make cross-shaped vertical cuts upward from the base of the bulb, about three-quarters deep.

2. Then bury the bulb of an arrow in moist sand or peat moss. After a period of time, many small balls will grow at the cut. Separate the small balls with their roots and plant them in the soil. It will bloom in about 3 to 4 years. If it is sown immediately after being harvested in autumn, the embryonic roots will grow in the same year and sprout in the spring of the following year. If it is a seedling, it needs to be maintained for 5 to 6 years before it can bloom.
