What are the cultivation methods and precautions of peony?

Peony growth habits

Peony belongs to the Paeoniaceae family. It is a deciduous shrub. It is quite ornamental, with large flowers and a fragrance. When breeding, it is usually propagated by sowing. Before sowing, the soil needs to be disinfected and sufficient base fertilizer should be applied.

Peony cultivation method

When cultivating peonies, the method of sowing propagation is generally adopted. Loose, fertile and well-drained soil is required. Sufficient sunlight is needed during the maintenance period, but appropriate shade treatment is also required in the summer. At normal times, there must be a suitable temperature environment, which cannot be lower than 10 degrees.

Watering method

Peonies need to be watered thoroughly after planting. Water them appropriately at ordinary times to avoid water accumulation. During the growing season, water them appropriately to keep the soil moist.

Fertilization method

One year after planting, peonies can be fertilized in the autumn. Generally, decomposed organic fertilizer is applied and it needs to be combined with loosening the soil. Chemical fertilizers are usually used in spring and summer.

Pruning methods

After the peony sprouts in spring, it needs to be pruned. Generally, about 5 buds will be retained, and the rest will be removed. This will concentrate nutrients and facilitate flowering in the second year.

Matters Needing Attention in Peony Cultivation

When caring for peonies, you need to be careful and repot them regularly. This is usually done after 3-4 years of growth, in autumn. When caring for them regularly, you need a suitable temperature environment, otherwise diseases and pests will occur.
