When is the best season to plant jujube?

Green jujube planting season and time

The planting of jujubes is divided into seasons. Jujube seedlings can be cultivated for many years in places with water sources, but the most suitable cultivation time is February to March. It is better to wholesale jujube seedlings in February to March, and the fruit yield is very high at that time.

The common varieties of dates are Hainan dates and Yiwu dates. The most suitable time to plant different varieties of green dates is in spring.

Green jujube harvest season

Green dates are generally available in winter, from October to March of the following year. They are said to have high nutritional value. This type of date is a very high-yield plant, and per acre of land, without strict fertilization or anything, it should be able to produce about 5,000 kilograms.

Steps and methods of planting jujube

1. Growth environment

Jujube trees can be planted in mountains, hills and plains, but sticky, poorly drained and alkaline soils should be avoided. To increase the fruit setting rate, multiple varieties can be mixed in planting.

2. Planting density

The jujube tree grows fast, so the planting density should not be too large. The average yield per mu is 20-30 kg. The planting specification can be 5 meters, and the length and width of the hole are 80 cm. Apply enough base fertilizer and dig ditches for drainage. The planting time is from March to May. Even the survival rate of the root seedlings is more than 95%, and it grows rapidly. It starts to bloom in August and matures in November.

3. Appropriate fertilization

Fertilization of young trees: Nitrogen fertilizer has long been the main fertilizer for seedlings. The principle of dilute fertilization is adopted to promote the rapid growth of seedlings and quickly form a high-yield crown. After the seedlings are planted and germinated, watering with dilute human manure begins once a week. As the crown of the seedlings expands, the concentration can be appropriately increased, and quick-acting nitrogen, phosphorus and other fertilizers can be added. After flowering and fruiting, potassium fertilizer can be added at the same time.

4. Soil management

The green jujube requires a lot of water. Moist soil in the early flowering period is conducive to the growth of branches. In the young fruit period (approximately July to September), the topsoil should be kept dry and the pit should be kept humid. Watering is not allowed, which is conducive to the germination and growth of flower buds. After the fruit grows to the size of a finger, the soil should always be kept moist. At this time, it will suddenly dry or wet.

5. Flower and fruit management

One inflorescence can grow into 4-5 small fruits. Under normal circumstances, some young fruits can fall off automatically, but after the natural fruit fall, there are still many fruits, which require artificial assistance in fruit thinning. The fruits are slender and overgrown in the young fruit stage. The branches close to the ground are cut off, and then the overcrowded fruits, thin fruits, and yellow fruits are thinned out. Only two fruits can be left on each inflorescence at most, but it is best to leave fruits on each inflorescence. Thick branches have more fruits, and young branches have fewer fruits. By November, branches that have too many fruits can cut off the flower spikes and young fruits at the end of the branches, and apply fertilizer outside the roots.
