Key points and precautions for transplanting citrus seedlings

Citrus fruits are sweet, nutritious, affordable, and come in a wide variety of varieties. They are a precious fruit that people love very much. In recent years, the planting area of citrus has gradually increased, and the difficulty of transplanting citrus seedlings has also increased. Many farmers have experienced the death of citrus seedlings during the transplanting process. Here are the key points and precautions for transplanting citrus seedlings.

1. Transplanting points

1. Transplanting time

Citrus is an evergreen fruit tree. Generally, the best transplanting effect is when the autumn shoots mature in September to November and before the spring shoots sprout in February to March of the following year.

2. Planting method

When planting citrus seedlings, you should use non-toxic, disease-free, healthy and nutritious cup seedlings. It is recommended to use grafted seedlings from dead wood of Citrus aurantium . The planting rows should be determined according to the terrain. If it is planted in mountainous areas , horizontal rows should be opened around the mountain to form a gradient between rows. One row of citrus should be planted on each gradient, and a "品" shape of planting should be implemented. The width of each ladder is 3 meters or 6 meters, and the spacing between plants is 2 meters. The specifications of the planting pits should be 60 cm × 60 cm × 40 cm, and 111 plants can be planted per mu for high yield.

If it is planted in the field, it is necessary to make ridges and dig drainage ditches. Single-row planting is done in ridges, with the planting pit located in the middle of the ridge. For plots with good drainage, large ridges can be used for double-row planting, with a row spacing of 3m × 3m or a row spacing of 2.5m × 3m, and a furrow spacing of 6m. The planting pit size should be 60cm × 60cm × 40cm, and 74-88 plants can be planted per mu. Citrus fruits planted before the Spring Festival can achieve 3-5 batches of shoots. Citrus planted in the autumn from September to November can produce 4 to 6 shoots in the next year.

3. Fertilization management

For newly planted citrus seedlings, be sure to apply sufficient organic fertilizer , thoroughly improve the soil and prepare a good foundation, ensure two fertilizations next spring, and at the same time apply sufficient base fertilizer. At the bottom of the planting pit, apply 5-10 kg of biological organic fertilizer to each plant and mix it with the soil to form a funnel-shaped layout. After the seedlings are planted, spread 0.5 kg of Letu Fu'an and other biological organic-inorganic special fertilizers 40-50 cm away from the main trunk, spread it in a circle, and cover it with 3-5 cm thick soil.

2. Precautions

If you are transplanting seedlings, you must give priority to seedlings of uniform size, non-toxic and strong, remove the cup film, straighten the planting and put the soil back in. When the soil is halfway back, gently lift the seedling up (nutrient cup seedlings do not need to be lifted), then continue to put the soil back and compact it to 2-5 cm below the grafting point, build a tree tray (30 cm high and 60 cm in diameter) with soil, and water each plant thoroughly with about 15 kg of water to help it take root. It should be noted that:

1. Clean the film at the grafting interface.

2. The backfill soil cannot cover the grafting point, and the grafting point must be more than 3 to 5 cm from the ground.

3. When covering the seedlings with soil, compact the surrounding soil and do not damage the roots of the seedlings.

4. When watering, pour in slowly.

5. When covering with black film, do not stick too close to the tree trunk. Keep a distance of 1 to 2 cm and do not damage the leaves.

The above is an introduction to the key points and precautions for transplanting citrus seedlings. When transplanting citrus seedlings, if you are not careful, the citrus seedlings will not survive, which is a waste of time and energy. Therefore, farmers must pay attention when transplanting citrus, master the above transplanting points, and improve the survival rate of citrus seedlings.
