Chayote Planting Season and TimeThe planting of chayote is generally seasonal. It is best to plant it in spring, specifically from April to May, when the climate and temperature are most suitable for seed germination. Chayote is a plant of the Cucurbitaceae family. The more common varieties include green-skinned chayote, white-skinned chayote, and Guling chayote. There is not much difference in the planting time between different varieties of chayote. Chayote Harvest SeasonChayote usually bears fruit 3-5 years after planting. The flowering period is from July to September, and the fruit ripening period is from August to October. The yield per mu is generally around 5,000-7,000 kilograms, and the market price per kilogram ranges from 2 to 5 yuan. Chayote Planting Steps and Methods1. Choose melon seeds Select disease-free melons for planting. The melons should be about 30 days old and the storage temperature of the melons can be controlled at 5-10℃. 2. Seedling management Before sowing, take out the seed melon, place it in a room at 20℃, cover the bottom with about 3 cm of river sand, and you will see white fibrous roots in about two weeks. 3. Planting management When the melon seedlings grow to 20-30 cm, they are transplanted in pits. Before planting, the soil should be tilled and fertilized, then watered thoroughly. Transplanting can be done two days after watering. |
