What are the cultivation methods and precautions of Oncidium

Oncidium cultivation method

Oncidium is the general name for plants of the genus Oncidium in the Orchidaceae family. They can generally be propagated by division and tissue culture and commercially grown. They prefer a moist and semi-shady environment. Oncidium itself prefers semi-shade and is afraid of strong light.

The most suitable growth temperature for Oncidium cultivation is 18~25 degrees. It is necessary to select soil with good drainage and air permeability for cultivation. When cultivating Oncidium, it is necessary to keep the cultivation environment clean and hygienic, and regularly remove weeds in and around the greenhouse.

Watering method

When watering Oncidium, you should follow the principle of moderation. After the soil surface is dry, you can add water in an appropriate amount. Water the most when it is growing most vigorously. Water twice a day in the morning and evening, and control the water in winter.

Fertilization method

Oncidium requires very little fertilizer, it only needs to be applied in spring and autumn, usually once every 20 days. Organic fertilizer can be used.

Pruning methods

Oncidium can be pruned in all seasons, and the purpose of pruning in different seasons is different. Pruning in spring and autumn can promote the growth of new leaves of Oncidium, while pruning in winter can cut off yellow leaves, dead branches, etc.

Precautions for Oncidium cultivation

The light for growing Oncidium should not be too strong, as it can easily cause burns. In mild cases, the tissues will be injured and the leaves will turn yellow. In severe cases, the leaves will turn grayish white and cause charcoal maggots. Check and remove the diseased plants with yellow leaves in time, and abandon and bury the severely diseased plants to prevent them from becoming a source of infection.

The light for growing Oncidium cannot be too weak. If the light is too weak, the photosynthesis efficiency will decrease, and the leaves will grow excessively and droop, which is not conducive to the differentiation of flower buds and will also result in fewer flowers.
