This plant is bitter and cold, and its efficacy is similar to that of Coptis chinensis, which can remove dampness and heat from the gastrointestinal tract, but its medicinal strength is slightly weaker than that of Coptis chinensis. It can be mixed with Phellodendron chinense, Costusroot, and Pulsatillae.
