How to breed millet star

The main method of propagation of millet star is beheading and cuttings. It can also be propagated by sowing. Generally speaking, its natural way of reproducing offspring is through seeds, but its seed reproduction is less, so this method is not recommended. Cuttings are still the fastest way to propagate.

When does millet star reproduce?

The survival rate of millet star is generally high when propagated by cuttings in spring or autumn. These two seasons are its peak growth seasons. The plant has a strong germination ability, which can promote faster rooting. In addition, a suitable climate can also reduce damage to the mother plant and promote faster recovery.

How to propagate millet star by cuttings

1. Beheading

When taking cuttings, we use the beheading method to obtain cuttings. We should choose branches with good growth points and cut small sections of about 3-5 cm long as cuttings. After processing, put them in a cool place. After about two or three days of drying, the cut ends will be dry and can be used for cuttings.

2. Soil preparation

The substrate for cuttings must also be prepared in advance. It must be loose, breathable and well-drained. It can be mixed with peat soil and vermiculite, and then placed in a flowerpot after disinfection.

3. Cuttings

After everything is ready, insert the cuttings directly into the substrate. After insertion, water a small amount to make the soil slightly moist. Control the temperature at around 20 degrees. Also pay attention to the light. Do not expose it to direct sunlight at this time. Ventilate more often and provide a suitable environment. It will take about 20-25 days for it to take root and survive.

Precautions for breeding millet star

1. Millet star likes light. During the cultivation period, it should be exposed to the sun as much as possible. It will be better if it is exposed to enough light. Just pay attention to blocking the strong light in summer in time. The plant likes to grow at a temperature between 20-30 degrees. It is not cold-resistant. The temperature should be controlled above 5 degrees in winter.

2. Water the millet in time during the peak growth season. Water thoroughly when the soil is dry, but do not allow water to accumulate. Millet does not require much fertilizer, so once in a while during the peak growth season is enough. In addition, you should also trim the messy branches in time.
