Cultivation Techniques of Osmanthus fragrans Bonsai

How to make a bonsai of Guri Osmanthus fragrans

To grow Osmanthus bonsai, you need to select healthy seedlings and then plant them in soil with good air permeability. You can prune them in time during the growth period. They can be made into oblique trunk, straight trunk and other shapes. Pruning is generally the main method, with coiling as a supplement.

Cultivation Techniques of Osmanthus fragrans Bonsai

Potted Osmanthus fragrans is best planted in loose, fertile, nutrient-rich, and well-drained soil. It can be maintained on a sunny balcony, given at least 5-6 hours of direct light a day, providing a temperature between 18-28°C, and keeping it above 5°C in winter. Water it once a month during the growing season and apply a thin layer of fertilizer every 10 days.

Precautions for cultivating osmanthus bonsai

Osmanthus fragrans is an evergreen shrub plant with a strong fragrance when it blooms. It can generally be placed indoors, but it is best to place it in a ventilated place indoors. In addition, the stems and leaves of Osmanthus fragrans are trace toxic, but this toxicity will not affect human health.

1. Use soil

The Osmanthus bonsai has high requirements for soil and needs to be planted in loose, permeable, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. As for the specific preparation method, you can mix seven parts of sandy loam, one part of fine slag, two parts of cake fertilizer residue, five parts of pond mud, four parts of peat, and one part of river sand.

2. Pruning

It is best to prune the Osmanthus bonsai in spring and autumn. When pruning, remove weak branches and dead branches that are in poor growth condition. Try not to prune in summer and winter because the incisions recover more slowly at this time. In addition, disinfection should be carried out after pruning, and the incision position should not be exposed to water, otherwise it will be easy to get infected and difficult to recover.

3. Repotting

The best time to plant Osmanthus fragrans is around October in autumn. It can also grow around May in spring. It cannot be planted in winter and summer to avoid plant death. It is best to choose a flowerpot with good air permeability, which can be a clay pot or porcelain.

4. Watering

Osmanthus fragrans has good drought resistance, so it does not need too much watering, otherwise it will easily cause root rot. Generally, you can water it every other day in spring and autumn, once in the morning and evening in summer, and once a week in winter. If there is rainy weather, you can extend the watering interval. Water it at the roots, and use more rainwater or river water.
