Time and method of changing soil for Amaryllis

Time to change the soil of Amaryllis

It is best to change the soil for Amaryllis when it is dormant, that is, in January and February, because the plant's requirements for the environment are the lowest at this time. Even if the surrounding environment changes to a certain extent, it will not easily affect it, and it can adapt to the pot as soon as possible.

How to change the pot and soil of Amaryllis

1. Prepare the potting soil: The potting soil in the new pot should be prepared in advance, and it should be roughly the same as the original potting soil. Make sure the soil is loose, fertile, well-drained, and rich in humus. After preparation, expose it to the sun to disinfect and sterilize.

2. Remove from the pot and trim the roots: After preparing the potting soil, you can take it out of the pot. The movement should not be too large, and it needs to be done step by step. Do not water it for a few days before removing from the pot. Then slowly take the plant out of the pot, shake off most of the old soil on the roots, and keep a little at the roots.

3. Planting in pots: Fill the pot with a little soil, then plant the amaryllis upright in it, cover it with the rest of the soil, water it thoroughly to promote establishment, place it in a place with scattered light first and wait for it to adapt, and then provide normal maintenance.

Notes on changing soil for Amaryllis

1. When changing the soil for Amaryllis, you need to be careful not to injure the roots when removing the plant from the pot, otherwise it will cause the leaves of the plant to droop and become dull, which will seriously affect the growth of Amaryllis after changing the soil, making it difficult to adapt to the pot.

2. It is better to use loose and breathable soil when changing the soil for Amaryllis. You can use a mixture of garden soil, humus soil and freshwater river sand, and add perlite to increase air permeability.

3. When changing the soil for Amaryllis, you need to apply base fertilizer. You can bury some fermented rice husks and chicken manure in the pot as base fertilizer to help the plant adapt to the pot as soon as possible.

Maintenance method of Amaryllis after soil change

1. After repotting, Amaryllis must be carefully cared for. Once it adapts to the new potting soil, you can fertilize it. In the future, you should fertilize it with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers once a month to meet its growth needs.

2. Amaryllis needs to be watered once after changing the soil. When watering, pay attention to whether the soil drainage is good. After watering thoroughly, you should reduce the frequency of watering. After the plant has adapted to the pot, water it once every 5-7 days.

3. The yellowing of Amaryllis leaves after changing the soil may be caused by frequent watering. You need to pay attention to proper watering. It may also be due to pests such as red spider mites.

4. After changing the soil of Amaryllis, do not place it in the sun immediately. It should be placed in a cool place and allowed to see the sun for about 3-4 days.
