Sweet Osmanthus Growth Environmental Conditions and Requirements

It is now widely planted in the Huaihe River Basin and the areas to its south. Its suitable habitat reaches the lower reaches of the Yellow River in the north and Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan and other places in the south. Osmanthus is adapted to subtropical climate zones and likes warmth and humidity. It is suitable for planting in areas with an average temperature of 14-28℃.

Osmanthus growth temperature

During the growth process of osmanthus, the temperature must reach 24-28℃, the average temperature in January is above 0℃, the lowest temperature it can withstand is -13℃, and the most suitable growth temperature is 15-28℃.

Osmanthus growth humidity

Humidity is extremely important for the growth and development of osmanthus, requiring an annual average humidity of 75%-85%. The principle of keeping the soil moist should be followed during the growth process. Especially when young trees and adult trees are flowering, they need more water, so the soil should be kept moist at this time.

Osmanthus growing soil

Osmanthus is not very demanding on the soil. It can generally grow in any soil except alkaline soil and low-lying land or soil that is too sticky and has poor drainage. However, slightly acidic sandy loam with deep soil layer, loose, fertile and good drainage is most suitable.

Osmanthus fragrans growth cycle and process

The growth period of osmanthus is from April to May every year, and the growth cycle takes 1-2 years. The basic process of flower bud differentiation of osmanthus can be divided into six periods: inflorescence differentiation, floret differentiation, calyx differentiation, petal differentiation, stamen differentiation and pistil (degenerate pistil) differentiation.
