How to care for Lithops and make them grow fast

Lithops growth conditions

Lithops prefers a climate with warm winters and cool summers. It is suitable for growing in a dry, sunny and well-ventilated environment. The suitable growth temperature is between 10-30 degrees. It has a wide adaptability to soil and should grow in loose, breathable and well-drained neutral sandy loam.

How to grow Lithops

If you want Lithops to grow well, it is best to plant it in loose soil with good air permeability, and the maintenance temperature should not be lower than ten degrees. It does not like a humid environment, so do not water it too much. Water it when it is dry. The plant cannot tolerate strong light, so it needs proper shade when the sunlight is strong.

Lithops watering

Lithops is not tolerant to waterlogging and should not be allowed to accumulate water. It needs to be watered appropriately at normal times. Water it when the soil is dry and do not water it if it is not dry. When watering, it needs to be watered thoroughly. Generally, it only needs to be watered once every 3-4 days. Summer is its dormant period and it only needs to be watered once a month. Reduce watering on rainy days.

Fertilizing Lithops

Lithops is a fertilizer-loving plant. You can apply some base fertilizer when planting it, and reduce the amount of fertilizer in the later stage. In addition, you can apply some thin liquid fertilizer every half a month during the period of vigorous growth.

Lithops disease and pest control

Common diseases of Lithops are leaf spot and leaf rot, which can be sprayed with wettable powder of Zineb. Common insect pests include ants, root-knot nematodes and root mealybugs. You can replace the soil or irrigate the roots with avermectin.

How to grow Lithops at home

Lithops likes loose, fertile soil. For potted maintenance, you can mix vermiculite, peat, perlite in equal proportions. You can also add a small amount of fine-grained sand to increase drainage. Provide sufficient light conditions, provide shade in summer, and it is best to move it to a warm indoor place for maintenance in winter.

Matters Needing Attention in Lithops Care

Lithops likes a dry environment, so water it less and spray it more often. Use a spray bottle to water it most of the time. Never water it in rainy weather for a long time. If you water it, you need to open the window or turn on the fan to ensure ventilation and speed up the evaporation of water.
