Can Jade Dew be repotted in summer? The best season for repotting (notes)

Can the Jade Dew be repotted in summer?

The jade plant cannot be repotted in the summer. When the temperature is hot in summer, the jade plant will enter a dormant state, stop growing and become more fragile. If the plant is repotted at this time, it will not be able to adapt to the new soil, affecting the health of the plant and even causing the death of the plant. It is best to repot in spring and autumn.

How to repot Jade Dew

1. Prepare the soil

Before repotting the jade plant, you need to prepare a flowerpot that is larger than the original one to ensure that it can meet the growth needs. The soil can be granular soil or nutrient soil, which can meet the growth needs. You also need to prepare some expanded clay and spread it at the bottom of the flowerpot to increase air permeability and drainage.

2. Get out of the flowerpot

After preparing the flowerpot and soil, you need to take the plant out of the flowerpot first. Be careful during this process and do not tear the roots directly to prevent root damage. You can stop watering a few days before repotting to keep the soil in the pot dry and avoid root damage.

3. Planting in pots

Spread a layer of expanded clay at the bottom of the pot, and then fill it with nutrient soil, about two-thirds of the pot. Place the jade plant in the middle of the pot, compact the soil, and then pour a certain amount of water on it. Avoid strong light and expose it to soft light to adapt first.

Things to note when repotting Jade Dew

When repotting the jade plant, you need to trim the roots, especially the rotten parts, and also trim the old branches appropriately. After pruning, put it in a disinfectant solution for disinfection, then place the jade plant in a ventilated place to dry, and then you can put it directly into the pot.

When repotting jade plants, you should choose a pot with good drainage. It is best if the pot has drainage holes at the bottom so that the jade plants will have better air permeability. When transplanting jade plants, you can also leave some old soil, about one-third of the old soil will be enough to help the jade plants adapt to the environment better.
