How to propagate Prunus armeniaca

How to propagate Prunus armeniaca

1. Breeding Methods

There are many ways of reproduction available for Prunus armeniaca, and almost all of them are suitable for it. There are five commonly used methods, namely grafting, cutting, division, layering and sowing.

2. Reproduction steps

1. Grafting method: Both bud grafting and branch grafting are acceptable, but the time required is different. Bud grafting can be done in late August and branch grafting can be done in spring. First, you need to choose the rootstock, wild rose seedlings will do. Then choose a strong mother plant and select one-year-old branches from it as scion. After selection, graft the scion onto the rootstock and take good care of it.

2. Cutting method: This method is best used with healthy young branches grown in the current year, at the turn of spring and summer. After cutting the branches, choose the strongest part, which should be five to fifteen centimeters long and have at least three nodes. Then prepare a substrate with good air permeability. Then insert the cuttings obliquely into the substrate and take care of them carefully.

3. Division method: It can be done in spring or autumn. Choose a lush and strong mother plant and divide it into several pieces from the roots. Trim each piece to reduce evaporation. Then plant them separately.

4. Layering method: First select strong branches and peel off the bark from fifteen to thirty centimeters away from the top. Then wrap the area with a piece of plastic wrap and tie it tightly. It will take about one to one and a half months for the seeds to take root.

5. Sowing method: can be done in spring or autumn. Choose plump seeds, sow them in rich flower soil, and take good care of them.
