How to propagate Monstera by cuttings

How to propagate Monstera by cuttings

1. Cutting time

If you take cuttings at the right time, the chances of success will be higher. Generally we choose spring or autumn for cuttings. The temperature is suitable during these two periods. If it is fall, then it is best to do it indoors.

2. Preparation

(1) Material preparation: Select a healthy, well-growing mother plant. Then, select a healthy and strong branch, about ten centimeters long, with two or three buds on it, and there must be aerial roots underneath. You don’t have to bring leaves, but you must have aerial roots.

(2) Preparation of substrate: It requires good air permeability and drainage. Secondly, it must be nutritious. You can use vermiculite or fine sand. You can also use leaf mold and garden soil.

3. Take cuttings

After all the above preparations are completed, you can proceed with cuttings. Insert the branches into the substrate. Be careful about the depth, don't go too deep. After plugging it in, place it in a cool place and keep the temperature around 20 degrees. The humidity should also be appropriate.

4. Rooting and transplanting

If all conditions are suitable, new roots will grow in the areas where aerial roots are located after a month. After new roots grow out, you can put it in a pot. Then the roots will slowly grow and new shoots will follow. Then, they will slowly turn into leaves.
