The leaves of basil are oval or oval-oblong, about 2.5 to 5 cm long and 1 to 2.5 cm wide, with a slightly obtuse or sharply tapering apex, a gradually narrowing base, an irregularly serrated edge or nearly entire, and a petiole about 1.5 cm long.

3. Flowers

Basil's flowers are in racemes, terminal on stems and branches, each evenly covered with fine hairs, usually about 10 to 20 cm long, composed of mostly decussate cymes with 6 flowers, calyx is bell-shaped, about 4 mm long, corolla is lavender or white on the upper lip and purple-red on the lower lip.
