Radish is a vegetable with high nutritional value and good storage resistance. It is one of the main vegetables, especially in spring, autumn and winter in northern China. The planting time of radish varies according to region and climatic conditions. Let’s learn when to plant radish. 1. Planting time Spring radish is usually sown in early spring and harvested in early summer, with a growing period of about 25-60 days. It is commonly grown in areas north of the Yangtze River. For example, Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuhan and other places sow in February and March and harvest in April to early June; the Huanghuaihai region sows in March and April and harvests from early May to June; high-latitude areas such as the Northeast, Northwest and northern North China sow in April and May and harvest in June and July. Summer radish is sown in May and June and harvested in July and August. Sowing too early may result in early bolting. The sowing time of autumn radish varies according to different regions. In warm areas, sowing is in late July to early August, and harvesting is in late October to early November; in cold areas, sowing is in early to mid-July, and harvesting is in early to mid-October; in high-altitude cold areas, sowing needs to be done in mid-June, and harvesting is done in late September to early October. The sowing period for winter radish is generally selected in early to mid-September to avoid insufficient leaf growth due to low temperatures. 2. Reasonable density planting Before sowing, the land needs to be deeply plowed and sufficient base fertilizer should be applied. Determine the reasonable planting density based on variety characteristics and local soil, fertilizer , water and other conditions. Large radish varieties such as Zhejiang Dachang and Zhejiang Luo No. 1 are sown in holes with a row spacing of 40-50 cm, 2500-3000 plants per mu, and a sowing amount of 400-500 grams; small radish varieties such as Xiaogoubai and Yidianhong are sown by broadcasting, with a sowing amount of 1000-2000 grams per mu. 3. Fertilization Base fertilizer is the main fertilizer, supplemented by top dressing. Base fertilizer should be applied in combination with decomposed manure containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. When applying top dressing, pay attention to the concentration and application location to avoid root burn. 4. Watering After the radish seedlings emerge, the soil needs to be kept moist, especially during the period of vigorous growth of the fleshy roots, and attention should be paid to the water supply . Attention should be paid to drainage during rainy seasons. 5. Time seedlings Carry out proper tillage, remove weeds, control pests, and ensure adequate field management. 6. Harvest The fleshy roots can be harvested when they are fully enlarged. If they grow too long, they may become hollow. Winter radish generally produces 3,000-4,000 kilograms per mu, while spring radish and summer and autumn radishes have lower yields, generally around 2,000 kilograms per mu. The above is an introduction to the time and methods of planting radishes, which can provide a reference for high-yield cultivation of radishes.
