How to plant Amaryllis bulbs

How to plant Amaryllis bulbs

1. Planting time

To ensure a good survival rate, you must choose the right time to plant Amaryllis bulbs. The best time is spring and autumn, when the climate is suitable and can promote growth.

2. Selecting bulbs

Before planting Amaryllis bulbs, you need to select suitable bulbs first, which is the key issue that determines their survival in the later stage. It is best to choose those that are plump and full, look healthy and free of pests and diseases. You should be able to feel a certain hardness when you pinch them with your hands. Do not choose those that are soft or have damage on the surface.

3. Bulb Processing

The bulbs must be processed before planting. Peel off the dry outer skin, cut off the dry and rotten roots underneath, retain the healthy roots, and expose the white part inside. After peeling, the bulbs need to be disinfected and sterilized. First, mix carbendazim with water to prepare a solution, then soak the bulbs in it for disinfection. After about half an hour, take them out and dry them.

4. Soil preparation for planting

The flowerpot does not need to be too big, about 20 cm in diameter will be enough. Prepare loose and fertile soil and add a little base fertilizer. Place expanded clay at the bottom of the flowerpot, fill it with soil, and then plant the bulbs. Only bury one-third of the bulbs, leaving a part exposed. After planting, place them in a cool and ventilated place.
