Christmas cactus amaryllis... blooms 3 or 4 times a year, how does it do that?

If you grow Christmas cactus like this, it can bloom 2 or 3 times a year!

In the minds of most flower lovers, Christmas cactus only blooms in winter and spring. In fact, as long as you master the techniques of inducing flowering, Christmas cactus can bloom 2-3 times a year.

1. Create a short-day environment

Christmas cactus is a short-day flower. In order to make it bloom, we need to artificially create a short-day environment. It receives 8 hours of diffuse light each day, while ensuring it is in complete darkness for 14 hours each day.

2. Do not move frequently

Christmas cactus is a phototropic flower. Do not move it casually during the bud formation period, otherwise it will easily cause the flower buds to fall and affect flowering.

3. Add fertilizer in time

Now it is autumn, and Christmas cactus has basically passed its dormant period, so you can apply some compound fertilizer to the soil. Wait until late autumn to start applying phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, such as Huaduoduo No. 2, to irrigate the roots to promote the formation of flower buds.

If you grow Clivia like this, it’s no problem for it to bloom three times in a row!

If you want your Clivia to bloom, you must first make sure that it has reached the age of 4 years or has grown 11 leaves. If all these conditions are met but it doesn't open, you can start from the following aspects.

1. Don’t change pots frequently

If not necessary, do not change the pot frequently, and the pot for growing Clivia should not be too large. A small pot can force the roots to grow and promote flowering. Before buds form, do not move the flower pots frequently, as this may easily cause the buds to fall off.

2. Add fertilizer in time

If you want Clivia to bloom many times, you need to increase the amount of fertilizer. Apply decomposed cake fertilizer water every half a month during the growing season, and apply high-phosphorus and potassium fertilizer about 20 days before flowering.

3. Increase the temperature difference and promote flowering at low temperature

Clivia will basically enter a dormant period when the temperature is above 25℃, and it is impossible for it to bloom. In order to promote the budding of Clivia, it is necessary to artificially create a low-temperature environment and increase the temperature difference. It can be placed on the south balcony during the day and on the cool north balcony or outside the corridor at night.

4. Cut off the flower stems after flowering

After the flowers fade, the flower stems should be cut off in time, and the closer to the ground the better, to prevent the Clivia from forming seed pods and seeds.

If you grow Amaryllis like this, it will bloom all year round!

Most flower lovers’ amaryllis usually bloom twice a year at most, but as long as you learn the method of blooming, blooming three times a year is not a problem!

1. Low temperature refrigeration

After the flowers fade in June, dig out the bulbs, cut off the withered flower stems and leaves, dry them in the sun for half a day, and then refrigerate them.

2. Planting after refrigeration

After refrigerating for half a month, take it out and plant it, apply compound fertilizer once, and then apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizer every 10 days. It will generally bloom again in about two months.

3. Water control treatment

If you want Amaryllis to bloom again in winter and spring, you need to control the water in early October for about 15 days.

4. Low temperature environment

After controlling the water, place the amaryllis in a low temperature environment, such as a corridor or basement. Move it back indoors in December, and the flower arrows will basically emerge in the middle of the month and bloom by the end of the month.

<<:  It’s terrible if the flowerpot is too deep. Every time I grow a long-lived Clivia, it dies. Change it quickly!
