Cutting propagation methods and precautions for yew

Cutting propagation methods and precautions for yew

Reproduction method of yew

Yew can generally be propagated by sowing or by cuttings, but the sowing method is relatively slow and has a long growth cycle, so if you want to quickly cultivate and propagate a yew plant, it is better to use cuttings.

Cutting propagation method of yew

It is generally more appropriate to propagate yew by cuttings in spring and summer each year, specifically between May and June, when the survival rate of cuttings is relatively high. Generally, the propagation method of yew by cuttings is as follows:

1. Try to choose a larger flower pot with holes at the bottom. Flower pots with holes can allow water to drain normally and prevent water from accumulating in the pot. Fill it with soil that can retain water and fertilizer and is ventilated and breathable and keep it for backup. It is better to use it after disinfection.

2. In spring and autumn, cut branches that have grown for more than one year, soak the bottom with rooting water, and insert them into the prepared substrate. When cutting, you can first use your fingers or chopsticks to poke a hole in the potting soil to avoid damage to the branches.

Precautions for cutting of yew

1. The best environment for yew cuttings is a clean, dry, ventilated, diffuse light propagation environment. Never place it in a damp and dark environment, which will reduce the rooting rate.

2. The temperature of the environment for yew cuttings should not be too low or too high. It is best to control the temperature during the rooting period after cuttings between 20 and 30°C, and avoid strong light.
