Is it better to grow spider plants in water or soil?

1. Water culture

1. Advantages: There are many advantages of growing spider plants in water: the health status of the plant is more intuitive when it is in water, especially the roots. When symptoms occur, they can be seen at a glance and can be treated in time, which is something that soil cultivation cannot compare to. Moreover, there is a wide range of choices for containers for water cultivation. In addition to choosing different containers, you can also raise aquatic plants and animals in containers. You can plant water plants in the water tank, and you can also raise goldfish, crabs, and other small aquatic animals in it. Doing so will greatly improve the ornamental value of the plant, which is something that soil cultivation does not have. When growing in water, as long as the water is changed frequently, bacteria will not grow. It is more hygienic than soil cultivation.

2. Disadvantages: Water-keeping containers are usually made of glass. If they are accidentally broken, it is easy to cause cuts, so they are not very safe to place. When growing fish in water, the nutritional components of water are single and limited, so nutrient solution needs to be added separately, which is a considerable expense and not very economical.

2. Soil culture

1. Advantages: The pots used for spider plants grown in soil are generally made of clay, which is safer than glass containers. The nutrients in the soil are diverse and sufficient, which is something that water-grown plants cannot match. Therefore, under normal circumstances, plants grown in soil grow more vigorously than plants grown in water.

2. Disadvantages: There is not much space to choose from for growing plants in soil, so the ornamental value is not as high as that for growing plants in water. Bacteria and small insects are easily bred in the soil, so the potting soil needs to be disinfected regularly. The cultivation procedure is more complicated than growing in water.
