How to transplant cactus

How to transplant cactus

1. Prepare pots and soil

(1) Pot: The main consideration is the size of the pot. It depends on the specific size of the cactus. Don't make it too big, otherwise the drainage will be poor and the cactus will easily rot. The size should be moderate. It is best to have small holes on it. The shape and color can be determined according to your preference.

(2) Soil: The main considerations are air permeability and drainage. Garden soil is fine, add some coarse sand. It is best to disinfect before transplanting.

2. Transplant

(1) First, take out the plant. However, in order to prevent the thorns on the plant from hurting our hands, it is best to wear plastic gloves for protection. Then, pick up the plant with pliers. Tap the pot gently to loosen the soil. Take this opportunity to remove the plant. However, be careful not to damage the roots.

(2) The next step is pruning. Mainly targets the roots. Remove old roots, rotten roots and diseased roots.

(3) Then you can transplant the plant into a new pot. First, secure the plant in its new pot and fill it with the prepared soil. Afterwards, compact the soil and wipe clean any dirty areas.

3. Subsequent maintenance

After transplanting, maintenance is also very important. If the plants are not properly maintained, they will not be able to adapt to the surrounding environment. Water once just after transplanting. Then, place it in a cool, ventilated place. After about a month, new roots will begin to grow. Normal maintenance can be resumed at this time.
