Cultivation methods and precautions of purple-leaf canna

1. Lighting

During its growing period, it requires full sunlight, which means that the light must be sufficient and it must enjoy at least five hours of sunlight every day. The environment cannot be too dark, otherwise there will be insufficient light, which will affect its flowering time. In addition, if you place it in a cooler place when it blooms, you can extend its flowering period.

2. Temperature

This plant is more suitable for temperatures between 15-28℃. When it blooms, in order to make it bloom longer, you can place it in a place with lower temperature and no light. The temperature in the environment should not be lower than 10 degrees. When the temperature reaches 40 degrees, you can move it to a cooler and more ventilated place. Before and after the Frost Descent, it should be moved to a place with a temperature of 5 to 10 degrees so that it can survive the winter safely.

3. Fertilization

Although sufficient base fertilizer has been applied before planting the plant, top dressing should be carried out 3 to 4 times during the period of its vigorous growth. If the flower buds have not appeared 20 to 30 days before flowering, you should also apply some fertilizer at this time. Sometimes the edges of the leaves will turn yellow, which may be caused by strong sunlight or being too dry. In the hot summer, if the water is too cold, it will cause it to wither and turn yellow. If the fertilizer is too concentrated, its roots will be burned directly. Therefore, you must be careful when applying fertilizer. It should not be too much or too concentrated.

4. Pruning

When the flowers on its stem begin to fall, they should be cut off from the base along with its stems. This will help new buds to sprout, and then grow more flower branches, making the flowers more numerous and beautiful in the future. Therefore, proper plastic surgery is also essential.
