How to grow chili peppers to get high yield?

Chili pepper, also known as sweet pepper, hot eggplant, and chili pepper, is an annual or limited perennial herb or shrub of the genus Capsicum in the Solanaceae family. This plant is edible, medicinal and ornamental, and has high economic value, so it has a wide planting area in my country. So how can we grow chili peppers to achieve high yields? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Site selection and land preparation

Peppers require to be planted on high and dry loam or sandy loam, and the soil should have good drainage and air permeability. After selecting the land, deep plow 10-15cm deep and apply enough basal fertilizer. The base fertilizer is mainly organic fertilizer , such as 5000kg of manure and 15-20kg of superphosphate per mu.

2. Seed selection and processing

Priority should be given to good varieties suitable for local cultivation. High-quality pepper seeds should be complete in appearance, without damage, mildew, etc. Then, do the seed processing work before sowing, including drying, soaking, germination, etc. Usually, when 80% of the seeds are white, they can be sown.

3. Planting time

Chili peppers can basically be grown all year round, depending on the actual local planting conditions. However, it is generally better to plant in spring. If you use seeds to plant, you can do it in January or February, and the time for transplanting is in March or April.

4. Sowing and seedling raising

Spread the treated seeds evenly on the prepared seedbed, then cover with a thin layer of soil and keep the soil moist. Seedlings can be raised on the seedbed and transplanted after the seedlings grow to a certain height. When transplanting, pay attention to keeping the root system intact and water it thoroughly in time to ensure that the roots are established.

5. Fertilizer and water management

Pepper is a shallow-rooted crop that is afraid of both drought and waterlogging. Therefore, in fertilizer and water management, we should pay attention to watering frequently in small amounts to keep the soil moist. At the same time, it is necessary to formulate fertilizers according to the fertilizer absorption rules and fertilizer requirements of peppers to meet their growth needs. In addition, during the flowering and fruiting stages, attention should be paid to foliar fertilization. Spraying 800 times of phosphorus and potassium source library on the leaves can effectively promote fruit growth.

6. Pruning

During the growth process of the plant, pruning and pruning should be carried out many times to remove weak branches, diseased branches, and broken branches to maintain ventilation and light transmission of the plant and concentrated supply of nutrients.

7. Harvest at the right time

Generally, the fruits can be harvested 2-3 weeks after the flowers fade when they are fully expanded and green in color. They can also be picked when the fruits turn yellow or red and mature. Be careful to pick the fruits in multiple times, picking them together with the fruit stalks, leaving more fruits on the plants to increase yield.

Generally speaking, chili pepper is a kind of vegetable that has simple planting techniques and can be harvested multiple times and bear fruit continuously. However, if you want to obtain high yields, you should do a good job of management before and after sowing and provide a suitable planting environment.
