How to grow sea buckthorn

How to grow sea buckthorn

1. Loose soil

Sea buckthorn has a strong adaptability and is not demanding on the soil; it can grow in any soil that is not too salinized. However, in order to better develop the plants, loose and fertile sandy loam is generally required. If you prepare it yourself, you can add an appropriate amount of river sand to the leaf mold. This not only contains certain nutrients, but also makes it loose and breathable, which is very helpful for the breathing of the roots.

2. Sufficient light

Sea buckthorn is a light-loving plant and its growth cannot be separated from sufficient light. Generally, the daily lighting time should not be less than 4 hours. The longer the lighting time, the more helpful it is for the differentiation of flower buds. Moreover, long-term exposure to light can also allow it to carry out photosynthesis better and accumulate more nutrients. It should be noted that strong sunlight will cause the leaves to turn yellow and wither, so appropriate shade is needed in the summer.

3. Watering is appropriate

Sea buckthorn itself has good drought resistance and can grow even in relatively dry environments. However, during its growing period, it needs to be watered more often, once every three to four days, to ensure sufficient moisture. As the temperature rises in summer, the rate of water loss will also accelerate, so watering is required every day and appropriate spraying of water is needed to maintain moisture. As the temperature drops in winter, watering should be reduced.

4. Supplemental fertilizer

Sea buckthorn can grow in very poor conditions and does not require much fertilizer. Usually, sufficient base fertilizer should be applied during planting, so that no top dressing is needed during the growing period. The base fertilizer is mostly decomposed organic fertilizer, which can provide nutrients continuously.
