How to propagate the fortune tree by cuttings

How to propagate the fortune tree by cuttings

1. Time selection

Choose the cutting method for propagation, the best time is from late June to early August. It is best to choose a cloudy day, morning or evening, as the chances of success will be higher.

2. Selection and processing of cuttings

(1) Selection: The choice of cuttings has a great impact on the success rate of cuttings. You should choose new branches that are strong, free of diseases and insect pests, and grown in the same year, and they should be woody. Cut it on a cloudy day or in the morning.

(2) Processing: The length is about six to seven centimeters. The cut at the bottom should be beveled and smooth. This helps the wound heal more easily. In addition, it is best to have two palm leaves on each cutting to allow for photosynthesis.

3. Choose the matrix

The substrate must be prepared in advance, and perlite is generally a better choice.

4. Take cuttings

(1) Soak half of the cuttings in rooting solution for about twenty hours to a day. Then take it out and rinse it with clean water to facilitate germination.

(2) After that, insert the treated cuttings into the prepared substrate. If the cuttings are long, the oblique insertion method can be used; if the cuttings are short, the straight insertion method can be used. The depth is controlled at three to five centimeters. If the branches are too long, the depth can be increased appropriately.

(3) After planting, water thoroughly and place in a shaded place.

5. Post-management

(1) It is best to ventilate the room every three days.

(2) To prevent infection, spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate once in late August and spray carbendazim once every week.
