How to prune the branches of a fortune tree

How to prune the branches of a fortune tree

1. Specific time

The pruning of the money tree is generally carried out in spring, specifically from April to May. The weather is warm at this time, and the branches and leaves sprout faster. Pruning at this time will allow new branches to grow quickly, which can promote the healthy growth of the plant.

2. Overall pruning method

(1) Cut off all the overgrown branches, as they will consume too much nutrients and compete with the healthy branches for nutrients. Just leave three or four buds on strong branches, or about ten centimeters.

(2) All branches on the plant should be cut off; no branches should be left.

(3) Weak branches should be cut off from the base. Because their germination ability is too weak and they will consume nutrients and water, they cannot be kept.

3. Specific trimming methods

(1) Single plant planting: shorten its stem to serve as the base. The thin branches sprouting from the base form new shapes.

(2) Braid type: Use wire to intertwine two or three growing branches to achieve the desired effect.

(3) Unique shape: Use wire to wrap some branches into the shape we like.

4. Things to note after pruning

(1) After pruning, be sure to protect the wound and avoid it from rain. The wound may rot after being soaked.

(2) Temporarily reduce the amount of watering. Because there are fewer leaves at this time, the evaporation will be less, the demand will be less, and the amount of watering will naturally be reduced accordingly.
