Can the bougainvillea be repotted in autumn?

1. Can I change the flower pots in autumn?

The time to repot the plant depends on the owner's experience. The most suitable time to repot the plant is in spring and autumn every year. If you have experience, you can also repot the plant in other seasons. If you repot in the fall, you can remove more soil and withered roots from the old pot. In summer and winter, you need to leave more of the original soil and remove less roots. It will be safer not to let its roots spread out.

2. Steps of repotting

1. First, place the new pot in the position of the original pot so that you don’t have to move it again. Place some tiles at the bottom of the pot and put some prepared soil. Then remove the plant from its original pot along with the surrounding soil.

2. Remove some soil from the root ball to make it suitable for moving. It is best to place it in the new pot at just the right height before putting it into the pot. Generally, half or one-third of the soil on the root ball is removed.

3. Cut off some roots and then move them to a new pot that has been padded with rough sand and potting soil. Do not throw away the cut roots, but place them in the new pot. You can insert a thick wooden stick in the pot to help fix it. Then fill the removed soil into the new pot, bury the severed roots, and wait for it to rot and it will become very good fertilizer.

4. The repotting is over here, and then water it thoroughly. It is very resistant to drought because it stores some water and nutrients in its roots and stems. As long as the root ball does not fall apart and at least half of the roots are retained, even if its leaves droop for a few days, it will soon recover.

3. Notes

1. When repotting it, it is best to do it when the soil in the pot is relatively dry. This will make it easier to remove the soil and old roots on the roots. It is best not to repot it shortly after watering.

2. It is best to remove half or one-third of the original soil to ensure that the root ball does not disperse. This is safer. If you are not very experienced, do not remove too much old soil.
