How to plant Ligustrum lucidum seeds

How to plant Ligustrum lucidum seeds

1. Spring sowing

1. Seed collection

Ligustrum lucidum seeds usually mature at the end of each year, that is, between November and December, which is the best time to collect seeds. First of all, you need to choose a Ligustrum lucidum tree that looks strong and has a good shape and other aspects. Seeds collected from such Ligustrum lucidum species grow stronger. Then you need to use scissors to cut off the fruit clusters and pull out the fruits. Then put them in clean water for about a week, remove the peel, wash them and dry them.

After that, the seeds need to be stored in a wet state, and then taken out in March or April of the following spring, soaked in 40℃ water and can be planted.

2. Planting environment

First of all, you need to choose a place that is sheltered from the wind, sunny, and has good drainage and irrigation conditions. As for soil, you should choose fertile soil with more organic matter. Generally, you can use a mixture of sandy loam and light clay, which is conducive to seed germination.

3. Sowing method

Sow the seeds directly onto the planting site and cover with soil. You can apply certain fertilizers, usually manure, which is beneficial to increase nutrients during seed development and promote seed germination.

2. Winter sowing

Ligustrum lucidum seeds can also be sown in winter. This is usually done before the winter freeze and no other treatment of the seeds is required. The planting method is the same as spring sowing.

3. Management after sowing and germination

After the Ligustrum lucidum seedlings emerge from the soil, weeds must be removed and the soil loosened in time, which is conducive to the development of the Ligustrum lucidum seedlings. Although Ligustrum lucidum prefers a relatively humid environment, too much water will not be of much benefit to it, so it is important to control the water content. Generally speaking, spraying water on Ligustrum lucidum seedlings appropriately every day can promote their development to a certain extent. As for the light, it cannot be too strong. Appropriate shading is needed when there is strong sunlight in the summer.
