How to divide the yellow crane orchid

How to divide the yellow crane orchid

Time for division propagation

It is generally suitable to propagate the yellow flowered crane orchid in spring before the plant sprouts new buds, or after the crane orchid's flowering period, wait for it to enter a short dormant period before starting to divide the plant. Most division propagations are combined with changing the soil and repotting. If the yellow flowered crane orchid continues to grow vigorously, and its branches and leaves are healthy and strong and its growth condition is very good, it can be propagated by division every two to three years.

Method of propagation by division

Take the entire plant of yellow crane's crown out of the potting soil, gently shake off the excess soil on the roots, clean the roots, trim the remaining roots, diseased roots and rotten roots, then follow the growth trend of the plant and use a knife to cut the pseudobulbs of the crane's crown into several small bundles. When cutting, be careful to damage the roots as little as possible. If the roots are accidentally damaged, you can simply smear the wound with a little wood ash and then plant it in a new pot.

It should be noted that each small bunch of separated sub-plants should have at least three pseudobulbs with new buds. Because of the new buds, these newly divided plants will basically not be greatly affected after planting and will continue to bloom in the same year.

When planting, pay attention to the part with new buds facing the outside of the flowerpot, leaving enough growth space for the plant. The best planting depth is to bury it in the soil about 1 cm below the pseudobulb.

Management after division

The new soil used for division planting should preferably be fertile and well-rotted soil. Loose, slightly acidic soil with a high humus content is most suitable. You can use some garden soil, leaf mold or pond mud that contains more nutrients. When dividing the plants, pay attention to proper shading to avoid direct sunlight on the plants. Pay attention to the ventilation of the environment. It is best to place them in a semi-shaded place. If conditions permit, plant them directly under the shade of trees or in the flowers on the shady side. Watering should be properly controlled, and water should be sprayed on the leaves frequently to keep them moist. Wait until the plant slowly recovers and grows normally before watering regularly.
