What is the difference between Hypericum and Hypericum

What is the difference between Hypericum and Hypericum

Introduction to Hypericum

The leaves of Hypericum are opposite, ovate, oblong or ovate-lanceolate. The petals are golden yellow without blush, more or less incurved, oblong-obovate to broadly obovate, with the margin entire or slightly erode-toothed, and with a row of glandular dots near the margin.

There are lateral cusps, the tips of which are more or less rounded or disappear, about 2/5-1/2 the length of the petals, and the anthers are bright yellow. Golden plum has a long flowering period, beautiful flowers, fragrant branches and leaves, and few diseases and pests. Hypericum strychnifolia is cold-resistant and light-loving, and has the effect of clearing heat and detoxifying.

Hypericum is produced in Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, Sichuan, Guizhou and other provinces and regions, and is often cultivated in other countries. Hypericum grows under sparse woods on hillsides or valleys, on roadsides or in bushes. It is a temperate and subtropical tree species and is slightly cold-resistant. It likes light and is slightly shade-tolerant. It has a well-developed root system, strong germination ability and is resistant to pruning. It is strong in nature and should avoid water accumulation. It grows in well-drained, moist and fertile sandy loam.

Introduction to Hypericum

Hypericum withers at the end of each growing season above ground and is perennial underground. The twigs are slender and branched, the leaves are papery, sessile, opposite, and oblong, and are gathered into cymes borne at the top of the branches. The flowers are golden yellow, and the bundled and slender stamen filaments are also as bright as golden threads.

Hypericum is a temperate tree species that prefers moist and semi-shaded locations. Because Hypericum is not very cold-resistant, the plant should be planted in a sunny place in northern areas, and soil should be piled up at its roots before the cold wave arrives in late autumn to protect the plant's safety over the winter. Hypericum can also be used as bonsai material.

Hypericum is distributed in Hebei, Shaanxi, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou and other places. It has also been introduced to Japan.

How to distinguish

Because Hypericum and Hypericum perforatum are plants of the same family, they look similar at first glance. But if you look closely, there are still differences.

The filaments of Hypericum are shorter and thicker, while the filaments of Hypericum are longer and thinner. In terms of petals, the petals of Hypericum are more gathered inward, while those of Hypericum are more scattered and slender, while the petals of Hypericum are wider and thicker.
