Strawberry cultivation time and cultivation method

Strawberry cultivation time and cultivation method

Every year with the arrival of the strawberry planting season, many growers worry about choosing healthy strawberry seedlings , fearing that they will buy diseased seedlings. In recent years, more and more farmers tend to cultivate strawberry seedlings by themselves, but they may encounter various problems in the process. Below we will learn about the cultivation time and methods of strawberries.

1. Cultivation time

Open-air cultivation of strawberries usually takes place from July to August each year. Before planting strawberries , you can interplant them with crops such as beans, wheat or melons, but make sure that strawberries are planted alone and avoid mixing them with other crops. Before planting strawberries, weeds should be removed from the field and sufficient base fertilizer should be applied.

2. Planting location

Strawberry has strong adaptability to soil and can grow in a variety of soil types. It also has a certain degree of drought and waterlogging resistance. The ideal location for growing strawberries should be high, flat, with good soil structure, sufficient sunlight, and acidic soil with a pH value maintained between 6.0 and 7.0.

3. Planting tips

Strawberry seedlings are usually grown in special nurseries or strawberry gardens. When choosing seedlings, you should pick those that grow evenly, are healthy and free of pests and diseases. When transplanting seedlings, they need to be transplanted with soil to increase the survival rate. Grasp the appropriate planting time, avoid drought caused by high temperature, and irrigate in time to prevent seedlings from dying due to drought. If planted too late, the seedlings may not survive the harsh winter temperatures.

The correct planting method is to make the growing point of the strawberry seedlings parallel to the ground, with the roots properly buried in the soil and the top of the new shoots exposed above the soil surface. Water should be applied immediately after planting to facilitate the survival of the seedlings.

4. Post-management

To ensure the healthy growth of strawberries, soil fertility must be ensured and fertilizers must be applied regularly. Apply sufficient fertilizer before winter to meet the nutritional needs of strawberries for winter growth and prevent yield from being affected by malnutrition.

When most of the strawberry buds are formed, quick-acting fertilizers can be applied to promote the strawberry's absorption of nutrients, ensure normal flowering and fruiting, and increase the fruit-bearing rate. During the growth period of strawberries, excess and withered leaves should be removed in time to reduce nutrient consumption and the risk of diseases and pests.

The above is an introduction to the cultivation time and planting methods of strawberries. Now more and more growers are using greenhouse models to plant strawberries, so the planting time can basically be all year round.
