1. Family

Lilac is a flower plant of the Oleaceae family and the genus Syringa. It is a deciduous shrub or small tree and can be used as an ornamental plant in the garden. Lilac has a wide distribution range and is grown all over the world. It can be planted in courtyards, parks, lawns, etc., or it can be grown in potted plants at home.

2. Features

The height of the lilac plant is about 2-3 meters, and can grow up to about 5 meters. The bark is gray or grey, the twigs are relatively thick, the leaves are oval to kidney-shaped, leathery or thick papery, about 2-14 cm long and 2-15 cm wide. The flowering period is around April and May. The panicles are upright, the corollas on the flowers are purple, and the anthers inside are yellow. It can bear fruit, the fruit is obovate in shape and relatively smooth.

3. Reproduction

There are many ways to propagate lilac. In addition to the conventional sowing, cuttings, and division, layering and grafting can also be performed, with a relatively high survival rate.

4. Varieties

There are many varieties of lilac, with a total of about 30 species. About 23 species are produced in China alone. The most common one in our life is lilac. In addition, there are white lilac, blue lilac, bergamot lilac, willow-leaf lilac, small-leaf lilac, etc.
