When do daffodils bloom?

When does it bloom?

Flowering time

Narcissus, also known as the Fairy of Lingbo, is different from many flowers in that it grows in autumn, blooms in winter, and hibernates in summer. Generally, it blooms around the Spring Festival, or as early as January. If properly maintained, the flowering period can last until March.

How long does it take for it to bloom?

Daffodils are grown in water and need to have the water changed once a day, then every 2 to 3 days. After the flower buds are formed, the water only needs to be changed once a week. Its normal growth temperature is 10~15℃. It will bloom in 45~50 days under normal water cultivation, and the flowering period can last for more than one month. If there is bad weather before and after flowering, the temperature fluctuates, and there is insufficient light, human intervention is needed to control the room temperature and use fluorescent lamps to supplement light to promote flowering.

How to control its flowering

Refrigerator flower control

According to observation, daffodils like cold and are afraid of heat, and the suitable temperature during the growing period is 10~15℃. When the room temperature is above 23℃, the flowering period is one week; when it is 15~20℃, the flowering period is about 10 days; when it is 8~12℃, the flowering period can be extended to 15~20 days, so as long as there is a certain low temperature, the flowering period of daffodils can be extended.

When one or two daffodil buds open, you can remove them and store them in the refrigerator. After a few days, take them out and place them in a flowerpot for continued care, and they will bloom normally. Or you can cut the flower stems, put them in a cup of water, put them in the refrigerator, ensure the temperature is around 1~3℃, leave them for 2~3 weeks, take them out and put them in a vase, and they will continue to bloom.

Drug flower preservation

In addition, if you want to extend the flowering period of daffodils, you can add a small amount of aspirin tablets (1/4 is enough) into the pot of daffodils, which can extend the flowering period and delay the wilting of flowers.

What should I do if the flowers are dumb or don’t bloom?

Reasons for not blooming

The quality of the bulbs is not good. The bulbs you buy may not be of the current year or large bulbs that can bloom. Such bulbs need to be cultivated for several years before they can bloom.

Improper watering time. Daffodils generally begin to grow after the Frost Descent and are in a dormant period before the Frost Descent (they are in a dormant period throughout the summer). If the bulbs are grown in water before the Frost Descent or after the Qingming Festival, the bulbs will not be able to grow normally and dull flowers will appear.

Improper maintenance. If the indoor temperature is too high, the sunlight is insufficient, the environment is dry, the water is not changed frequently, or even the bulbs are damaged when changing the water, all these will affect flowering.

How to deal with non-flowering

Choose high-quality bulbs that are more than three years old. During the water culture process, it is best to use rainwater or pond water, or tap water that has been left for a period of time. Ensure sufficient sunlight, no less than 6 hours a day; ensure good ventilation and keep the temperature between 12~15℃. When the weather is dry in the placement area, spray the plants with water every day.
