How to propagate kudzu

How to propagate kudzu

Seed propagation

Time selection: If using this method, we usually choose March to April, which is the early and mid-spring.

Specific steps: First, you need to process the seeds. Soak the selected plump seeds in clean water at about 30 to 35 degrees Celsius for 24 hours, then take them out and wait until the surface moisture is dried. Then we will start sowing. We will use the spot sowing method and control the row spacing at fifty to sixty centimeters. Dig some shallow holes in each row and sow four or five seeds in each. After sowing, add some animal manure and then cover with three or four centimeters of soil.

Layering propagation

Time selection: This method is best chosen in summer.

Detailed steps: We need to select those relatively strong branches, use continuous layering method, bury them in the soil to make them take root. After it grows roots, all we need to do is apply some fertilizer and be sure to remove the weeds around it. In the early spring of the following year, when it has not yet sprouted, we need to cut it into single plants, then dig them out for planting. Remember to add compost and cover with a thin layer of soil.

Cutting propagation

Time selection: This type should be chosen at the beginning of spring, that is, before it sprouts.

Specific method: We can choose those one- to two-year-old and relatively sturdy vines, and cut them into sections every two to three nodes. Then insert each section into the soil, keeping the depth at 10-15cm. Next, cover it with a layer of loose soil and don’t forget to spray it with water.
