Taboos of cultivating Camellia sasanqua in winter

Taboos of cultivating Camellia sasanqua in winter

1. The temperature should not be too low or too high

Under normal circumstances, the temperature suitable for the growth of Camellia sasanqua is between 18 and 25 degrees. But in winter, the temperature for its survival must be above minus 2 degrees Celsius, no lower, otherwise it will easily suffer from frost damage. Of course, it cannot be too high. If the temperature is too high, it will also affect its growth. Generally, it is best to keep it between 3 and 6 degrees. 7 degrees is its maximum temperature and it cannot be higher. Everyone must control this point so that it can get through the winter more safely.

2. Don’t let the sunlight in winter be too little

Generally, Camellia sasanqua prefers a place with partial shade and partial sun, that is, the light cannot be too much, but also not too little. But when winter comes, light becomes an important factor for it to survive the winter, because in summer we are always worried about the temperature being too high and the light being too strong, but in winter, we don’t have to worry about it anymore. We can give it a little more light, but we can't let it have too little light. If the wind on the balcony is too strong, you can place it in a place in the room where it can get more sunlight.

3. Don’t use too much water or fertilizer

In winter, plants generally do not require much water and fertilizer. So it is the same with sasanqua. As for water, not only should the soil not be too wet, but its leaves should also be kept a little dry, so as to prevent it from being frostbitten due to too much water. As for fertilization, generally speaking, you can apply a little light fertilizer when it is growing and blooming, but you don’t need to fertilize it in winter because at this time, it doesn’t need much fertilizer. If you force too much fertilizer, it will burn its roots, so both water and fertilizer must be controlled well.
