How to reproduce woolly rhododendron

How to reproduce woolly rhododendron

Cuttings

This method is quite common and practical in real life. If you use this method to propagate, you usually cut some of its sturdier semi-lignified new branches in May or June, with a basic length of about 5 to 8 cm. Then cut off the lower leaves, leaving two or three top leaves as cuttings. It is usually best to dip the base of the cuttings in some drugs that make it easy for it to take root. This will make it easier for it to grow roots. Then put it in relatively loose and breathable soil. The soil should not be too alkaline, otherwise the flower will easily die. In addition, it is best to control the temperature at 20 to 25 degrees. It should also be properly shaded and frequently sprayed with water to keep it moist. This will promote the germination of new roots faster and increase the chance of survival. Therefore, this method is also the most commonly used method.

Softwood propagation

The general method of reproduction is cleft grafting. For those precious varieties that are particularly difficult to survive, the thinner branches are first cut off by three or four centimeters, and then the base is cut into a wedge shape. The knife used should be sharper so that it is better for cleft grafting. Then you can use the Rhododendron as the rootstock, and then use some tender branches for cleft grafting. After completing all these procedures, you should put it in a cooler place to prevent it from being exposed to the sun, otherwise the chance of survival will become very small. In addition, after placing it, it is best to tie it up with a layer of film. This can keep the temperature constant and play a role in heat preservation. Then cover the scion and rootstock together with a plastic bag. In this way, you can effectively maintain sufficient humidity inside. Let it take root better.
