How to propagate Akebia grandiflora

How to propagate Akebia grandiflora

1. Division method

Division time: Generally, we start division in April every year, and it must have more than 6 leaves to be suitable for this method. Generally, the temperature should be above 30 degrees, because it will be easier for it to take root at this time.

The method of division: We can move the main plant out of the flowerpot, and then break off its new shoots with our hands. If the new shoots are close to its rhizomes, we cannot use our hands. We can use a sharp knife to cut off the new shoots. If the roots of the new sprout are not visible, it is best to make the cut into a smooth flat surface so that it can take root better.

Wound treatment: We also need to treat its wounds in a timely manner. Generally, we use some things to disinfect it, and then put it in a cool and ventilated place. Wait until its wounds begin to shrink, and then cultivate it.

Watering: Watering is very important. It cannot be watered thoroughly after planting. We can only spray some water on the surface of its leaves and the soil.

2. Cutting method

In addition to the division method, it can also be grown by cuttings. Cuttings can generally be taken at any season of the year. In winter and early spring, we can choose some relatively mature branches for cuttings, and they can basically bloom in the same year. In spring, summer and autumn, we can use some semi-mature branches or small tender branches for cuttings. Then you can use something that is easier for it to take root, and then insert it into the dug hole. Generally, using this method, roots will start to grow in 3 to 5 days. The root system grown in this way is very developed and the survival rate is also very high. Therefore, this method is generally used very often when breeding it. Especially when the demand is relatively large, the cutting method is generally used. It is recommended that you choose according to your preferences and operating conditions.
