How to propagate yucca

How to propagate yucca

There are three ways to propagate yucca: division, cuttings and seeds.

Yucca division method

The best time to implement the division method is in spring or autumn every year. Dig out the whole yucca plant, cut it into many plants with a knife, and then plant them.

Yucca cutting method

The period for implementing the cutting method and the division method is the same, which is spring and autumn every year. Before cutting propagation, effective methods should be adopted, such as topping, to promote the germination of side buds, and use side buds with good growth conditions as cuttings. Before cutting, be sure to cut off the side buds and dry them for a period of time before propagating. Dig a hole of appropriate size in the prepared substrate and insert the cuttings into the prepared substrate. After cutting, compact the soil and water it. Be careful not to have water accumulation in the pot to avoid root rot. If you need to plant a large number of yuccas, you can use the buried stem method. First cut off the older stems, remove the leaves, cut them into sections for cuttings, and pay attention to keeping the soil moist. They will germinate in about two or three weeks.

Yucca Seed Method

The seed propagation method of yucca is one of the most commonly used and easiest to operate. Collect the yucca seeds, prepare the potting soil, sow the seeds evenly in the prepared potting soil, and pour an appropriate amount of water, but not too much. The seeds will germinate in about three weeks and will grow fully in about five months.
