How to propagate variegated philadelphus

Breeding time

This plant can actually stay green all year round, so there are many times suitable for reproduction. If you want to propagate in spring, you have to do it before they sprout; if you miss spring, you can do it during the rainy season, as the temperature is moderate and conducive to growth after propagation; after the rainy season, you can propagate in September or October, as the temperature is not too low and the young plants will grow easily.

Reproduction method

As a "dominant plant" in landscaping, this plant has absolutely many ways to reproduce. Whether you use cuttings, tillering or layering, there will be no problem. When choosing branches, you should choose the sturdier branches of the current year, or the healthy branches of one year. If the part you choose is too young, it may be too weak to take root, and if you choose one that is too old, it may have residual diseases, so current year or one-year-old branches are the best choice.

Each section of branches should be kept at about 10 cm, and it is best to have three pairs of buds on each section. The spacing should also be about 10cm. After planting, be sure to water them thoroughly and provide appropriate shade. After it grows up, it can be transplanted and enter the normal maintenance stage.

Post-breeding care

They may also develop the following symptoms during their growth process. If wilting and leaf spots are found, all diseased stems and leaves must be removed, and then they must be sprayed with professional reagents to prevent the spread of the disease. Although they have a good ability to adapt to the environment, there is naturally no problem with proper nutritional supplementation. The best growth time is to use fertilizer once every half a month. Proper pruning is required in summer and autumn to control their growth. In this way, when winter comes, the seedlings will not be frozen.
