Summer carrot planting time and method

Summer Carrot Planting Time

Summer carrots are usually planted in July and August, so they can be harvested in November. Carrots can also be planted in spring, the earliest being in February or March. If the field temperature is low at this time, you can choose to plant them in mid-to-late March or early April.

How to grow carrots in summer

1. Variety selection

When planting carrots in summer, you should choose seeds with better heat resistance, otherwise it will affect the probability of carrot germination. Because their seeds are special, you should try to choose fresh seeds to increase the germination rate.

2. Seed treatment

Before planting carrots, you can dry the seeds in the sun to eliminate pathogens. Before sowing, soak the seeds in 40-degree warm water for half an hour, then add cold water to lower the water temperature to 20 to 25 degrees, soak for 24 hours, and after the seeds have fully absorbed water, take them out for germination. When half of the seeds have sprouts, they can be sown.

3. Planting seeds

Carrots are suitable for planting in loose, fertile soil. After deep plowing, base fertilizer can be applied. Before planting, the small burrs on the carrot seeds should be removed, then mixed with wood ash and evenly spread on the soil.

Precautions for planting carrots in summer

After planting carrots in the summer, you must take shading measures to provide a semi-shaded growing environment. Before the carrot seeds germinate, you can pull out the surrounding weeds and clean up the rotten and withered seedlings in the field in time.
