How to make Oncidium bloom

How to make Oncidium bloom

1. Soil

Oncidium likes loose, fertile and well-breathable soil. We must meet its needs so that it can grow hard. Its potting soil is generally made by choosing materials with large particles and good water retention and mixing them evenly.

2. Watering

Oncidium has a relatively high requirement for water, especially during the growing season, it needs a lot of watering. At other times, just make sure the soil in the pot is not too dry. If it is too wet, the roots will rot. Generally, you should start watering less from autumn until winter. The colder the weather, the less watering you should do. This will ensure its normal growth and achieve the effect of overflowing the pot next year.

3. Temperature

If you want your potted Oncidium to bloom, you must control the temperature well. Its favorite temperature is between 18 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius. It is best to artificially stabilize it within this temperature range. Otherwise, even its basic health will be difficult to guarantee! Especially during the flowering period, the temperature needs to be kept stable!

4. Lighting

Oncidium has relatively high requirements for light. In the summer, the light is too strong and will sunburn the Oncidium. It needs to be moved from outdoors or to the balcony to a place where it cannot be directly exposed to sunlight. However, it cannot be kept indoors for a long time. It can be taken out to bask in the sun in the evening and morning, otherwise the dark environment will affect the flowering of the Oncidium!

5. Fertilization

Oncidium needs a lot of nutrients. If you want to grow it well and make it bloom to its fullest, fertilizer is indispensable! It is generally recommended to apply fertilizer every ten to fifteen days, but do not apply fertilizer during the flowering period. I need to remind everyone here. You cannot apply a lot of fertilizer to it at one time because its absorption capacity is relatively poor. If the fertilizer is too concentrated, it will cause overnutrition and die.

If you do the above five points, your Oncidium will be able to grow to the point where it will overflow the pot!
